India is set to become the world's fourth-largest market for iPhones by the second quarter of 2026, according to data from market research firm Omdia, as reported by Business Standard. The report indicates that 3.45 million iPhone units were shipped to India during this period, accounting for 6.25% of Apple's global shipments.

Apple's smartphones held a 10% share of the Indian smartphone market at that time. The United States remained the largest market, with 17.61 million iPhone shipments, nearly five times that of India, representing 31.9% of global shipments. China followed as the second-largest market with 12.43 million units, while Japan ranked third with 4.5 million shipments, an 8.16% share of the global total.

Analysts suggest that India's next near-term objective is to surpass Japan and claim the third position. However, Sanyam Chaurasia, a principal analyst at Omdia, noted that while India might achieve third place in specific quarters, such as the third quarter during India's festival season, achieving consistent growth will take time. Chaurasia's projections indicate that India is unlikely to overtake Japan within the next three to four years.

The growth in iPhone shipments to India underscores the country's rising significance in the global smartphone landscape. While the market remains dominated by the U.S. and China, India's potential continues to attract major players like Apple.
