Reports: ByteDance Subsidiary Accessed Nvidia Chips via Nscale, Circumventing US Rules
Chinese tech giant ByteDance gained access to Nvidia chips by renting computing power from British AI infrastructure startup Nscale, according to reports. The move allegedly allowed ByteDance's subsidiary to acquire chips restricted for export to China.

Chinese technology conglomerate ByteDance has reportedly secured access to Nvidia's advanced semiconductors by renting computing power from the UK-based AI infrastructure firm Nscale. This arrangement allegedly allowed a ByteDance subsidiary to obtain chips that are subject to U.S. export restrictions to China.
According to The Information, ByteDance utilized Nscale's services to access Nvidia's A100 chips, a component crucial for artificial intelligence development. The U.S. government has implemented regulations aimed at limiting China's access to high-end AI chips, citing concerns over their potential military applications.
