Researchers Program AI to Drive a Car for Fast Food
AI engineers have successfully trained an artificial intelligence system to drive a car autonomously. The goal was to demonstrate AI capabilities in an everyday task.

Three AI engineers, Aditya Ramabadran, Simon Mahns, and Tobias Gessler, have successfully programmed an AI system to autonomously drive a Toyota Corolla to an In-N-Out Burger restaurant. The project aimed to demonstrate their AI system's ability to handle complex, real-time tasks.
The AI system, referred to by the developers as 'Grok,' navigated traffic, recognized road signs and signals, and made necessary driving decisions without human intervention. The drive included processing the menu at a drive-through and placing an order, requiring the AI to understand natural language and interact with the system.
The researchers stated the project was not only a practical demonstration but also a method to study and improve AI's capacity to operate in dynamic and unpredictable environments, such as traffic. Such applications could expand the possibilities of autonomous driving and enhance logistics in the future.
This project is part of a broader effort to develop AI capable of performing complex tasks alongside humans or on their behalf. While the trip to the fast-food restaurant was a specific example, it highlights the potential of AI development across various sectors.
