Resident Evil franchise generates $850 million for Capcom in 2026

Capcom's latest Resident Evil title, Requiem, has surpassed seven million units sold. The franchise's five most recent entries generated $850 million in revenue throughout 2026.

The Resident Evil franchise has remained a primary engine for Capcom’s financial performance in 2026. The series' ninth installment, Requiem, has reached over seven million units sold, ranking as one of the highest-revenue new releases on Steam this year.

Data from Alinea Analytics indicates that the five most recent entries in the series generated a combined $850 million in revenue across Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. Requiem alone accounted for $211.3 million in Steam sales. Legacy titles also remained profitable, with remakes of Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 generating nearly $100 million in combined revenue on Steam.

Industry analysts note that a successful film adaptation helped expand the series' audience, contributing to sustained player engagement. As the franchise surpasses 200 million total units sold globally, it accounts for approximately 60 percent of Capcom's total PC sales. The company has reported consecutive annual profits for nine years.

Looking forward, Capcom plans to maintain the franchise's momentum with the release of the Code: Veronica remake and new downloadable content for Requiem scheduled for 2027.
