Restate secures $20 million for AI agent infrastructure

Restate, a Berlin-based startup specializing in durable workflow infrastructure, announced it has secured $20 million in funding. The investment comes as the demand for robust systems capable of managing artificial intelligence agents increases.

Founded in 2022 by Stephen Ewan and his colleagues, who have experience with Apache Flink, Restate aims to provide an execution engine that ensures multi-step workflows are resilient to crashes and network interruptions. This focus on durability has proven particularly relevant for the expanding field of AI agents.

"It was never built for agents in the beginning, but it just happened to be a perfect match for all these problems that agents surface," stated CEO Stephen Ewan in an interview. AI agent workflows often run for extended periods and can take unpredictable paths, making a reliable tracking and execution system essential for reproducibility and consistent outcomes.

The new capital will allow Restate to scale its operations and further develop its platform. The company's technology is designed to handle the complexities of AI-driven processes, where tracking every action is crucial for ensuring dependability and predictable results.
