Retail investors focus on technology and fixed income in September
Nordea's September investor pulse report reveals that retail investors sought growth in AI-related stocks while turning to fixed-income assets for portfolio stability.

Retail investor activity in September was marked by a strategic balance between pursuing growth in technology-driven sectors and mitigating risk through debt instruments. Investments were heavily directed toward companies involved in artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and data center infrastructure.
Equity portfolios saw significant inflows into both tech leaders like Nvidia and infrastructure-related firms such as NCC. Alongside the technological focus, investors maintained interest in more defensive sectors, with financial services and healthcare providers, including Sampo and Terveystalo, remaining among the most purchased domestic stocks.
In the fund and ETF space, diversification across global markets and an increased allocation to fixed-income products defined the month. Nordea noted that investors are utilizing bond funds both for return potential and to balance overall portfolio risk. Data indicates distinct behavioral patterns across age groups, with younger investors leaning toward active index-tracking funds, while older cohorts favored traditional portfolio balancing strategies.
