Fintech company Revolut has launched "Revolut Pay with Smile" in the United Kingdom, marking the nation's first offline payment service utilizing facial recognition. The new system allows customers to pay for goods by looking at a payment terminal, eliminating the need for wallets or cards.
The service has been piloted at Kiss the Hippo Coffee in central London. Customers opting for this payment method can receive a special offer of one pound for a coffee. To use the service, individuals must be Revolut customers, and their identity is verified through facial recognition technology that matches their live scan against stored biometric data.
Revolut also announced the introduction of its "Revolut Register" point-of-sale terminal. This modular device integrates payment processing, cash withdrawal, and store management functions. Businesses can use the face payment option without incurring transaction fees. The terminal is offered at a promotional price of 349.50 pounds, down from its standard price of 699 pounds.
