Reykjavik Announces Public Art Competition in Vogabyggð

Reykjavik City has launched an extensive competition for public art in the Vogabyggð district. The competition intends to incorporate artworks as a fundamental part of the area's overall design, making visual arts a prominent feature of the environment and community.

The project aims to foster a stimulating setting for all ages and social groups. A budget of up to 140 million Icelandic krónur (ISK) has been allocated for one or more artworks. This initiative aligns with the city's cultural policy and is part of agreements with property owners in Vogabyggð.

The competition adheres to the rules set by The Association of Icelandic Visual Artists (SÍM). It is structured as a closed competition with an open pre-selection phase. Artists selected to participate will receive access to information and guidance from the architectural and engineering teams responsible for planning the public spaces and streets in Vogabyggð.

The deadline for applications for the pre-selection was May 2, 2018. A pre-selection committee was tasked with choosing up to eight artists to submit complete proposals. The results of the competition were expected to be announced by the end of 2018, with the artworks to be installed as the Vogabyggð development progresses.
