Reykjavik will host its annual Children's Culture Festival from April 23-28, highlighting the city's diverse youth culture. The festival will take over major cultural institutions, showcasing children's work and offering a variety of events and exhibitions.
This year's central theme is democracy, aligning with the 80th anniversary of the Icelandic Republic. The festival aims to engage children in civic themes through artistic expression. The official festival song, "Spyrja eftir þér" (Asking For You), features music by the band Celebs, with lyrics co-written by fourth-grade students discussing their views on society.
The program includes various art forms, such as dance, music, film, and visual arts. Exhibitions will be held at locations including the Nordic House, featuring student architecture projects, and Kjarvalsstaðir Museum, showcasing artwork by youth from the LGBT+ community center.
Performances by multiple dance schools will take place, and the festival will also include a family disco at the Úlfarsárdalur City Library. The BIG BANG music festival is scheduled for April 25 at Harpa, celebrating the First Day of Summer.
