Reykjavik City to Host Sustainable Drainage Symposium

Reykjavik City is hosting a symposium on September 23 focused on advancements in sustainable drainage solutions and the outcomes of the city's environmental projects. The event will take place at Tjarnarsalur from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The symposium will highlight the achievements of the LIFE Icewater project, including improvements to water quality and ecosystems in Tjörnin and Vatnsmýrin, flood protection in Kvosin, and the implementation of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS). Representatives from Reykjavik City, Veitur Utilities, the Icelandic Environment and Energy Agency, and other involved parties are scheduled to present.

Discussions will cover various project aspects, such as island restoration in Tjörnin, the current status of Vatnsmýrin, monitoring of priority substances, and flood risk assessment in Kvosin. The importance of SuDS will be examined, with examples from similar projects in Sweden and Iceland also being presented.

Following the formal presentations, attendees will have the opportunity to join an educational walk around Tjörnin lake.
