Reykjavik City has made it easier for residents to refuse unaddressed junk mail by increasing the availability of "no junk mail" stickers. These stickers can now be collected at the various swimming pools within the city and at the Borgartún service center.

The initiative, initially rolled out in 2020, aims to reduce resource consumption related to paper, printing, and distribution of advertising materials. The stickers are available in Icelandic, Polish, and English, offering multilingual options for residents.

Three distinct sticker options are provided: one for opting out of all junk mail, another for declining all except free newspapers, and a third allowing residents to specify the quantity of free newspapers they wish to receive, which is particularly useful for apartment buildings. This provides a flexible method for households to manage incoming advertising.

The Borgartún service center operates weekdays from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM (closing at 2:30 PM on Fridays). Swimming pool hours vary. The city encourages residents to utilize these stickers to contribute to more sustainable waste management practices.
