Reykjavik, Iceland – International leaders gathered at Höfði House in Reykjavik on Monday, October 12, 2026, to discuss peace, disarmament, and emerging threats, including the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence and declining respect for international law. The meeting commemorated the 40th anniversary of the 1986 summit between U.S. President Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev.

The discussion, hosted by Icelandic President Halla Tómasdóttir and facilitated by Reykjavik Mayor Hildur Björnsdóttir, lasted over two hours. Participants explored how contemporary leaders can foster peace, build trust, and guide the development of artificial intelligence responsibly.

Following the talks, the presidents of Iceland and Slovenia, along with the former president of Ireland, signed a "call from Reykjavik" advocating for responsible leadership. Other global figures will be invited to endorse this initiative.

Notable attendees included UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, UN Under-Secretary-General for Disarmament Affairs Izumi Nakamitsu, U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski, CNN Chief International News Anchor Christiane Amanpour, Novonesis CEO Ester Baiget, and co-founders of the Center for Humane Technology, Tristan Harris and Aza Raskin.
