German technology group Rheinmetall and US-based Anduril Industries have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) during the Eurosatory defence trade show in Paris. The collaboration aims to jointly design, develop, and produce layered air defence systems specifically designed to counter small unmanned aerial systems (C-sUAS).

The planned systems will integrate Rheinmetall's Skymaster command and control system and high-power cannons with Anduril's Sentry Tower, Wisp sensors, and Anvil autonomous interceptor. This combination seeks to offer a comprehensive C-sUAS solution by leveraging the complementary capabilities of both companies. The initial focus of the collaboration will be on serving European markets.

"This cooperation will showcase the most advanced C-sUAS system, combining Rheinmetall's military capabilities and Anduril's cutting-edge development speed," said Oliver Dürr, CEO of Rheinmetall Air Defence AG. "I am confident this combination will meet our clients' future needs."

Greg Kausner, Anduril's SVP of Global Defence, highlighted the accelerating pace of warfare and the need for adaptable air defence. "Anduril's partnership with Rheinmetall will bring our customers an innovative, software-defined, and hardware-enabled C-sUAS system to ensure they stay one step ahead of the drone threat." Rheinmetall has a long history in delivering air defence systems, while Anduril focuses on AI-enabled autonomous weapon systems. The companies expect the collaboration to significantly enhance defence capabilities and provide new strategic advantages.
