Rheinmetall and MSC acquire Mangalia shipyard in Romania
Rheinmetall and MSC have secured the Mangalia shipyard in Romania for €138 million, aiming to develop a dual-use facility for civil and military production.

German technology group Rheinmetall and Swiss shipping firm MSC have won an auction to acquire the Mangalia shipyard in Romania. The purchase, valued at €138 million, is scheduled to close within the coming weeks.
The new owners intend to operate the facility as a dual-use site, partitioning the area to accommodate both civil and military shipbuilding simultaneously. Tim Wagner, CEO of the Naval Systems division, stated that the company plans to upgrade infrastructure and expand production capacity to establish the site as a long-term strategic hub in Southeast Europe.
The shipyard will serve as a primary production point for four vessels currently ordered by the Romanian government, comprising two offshore patrol vessels and two diver support vessels. This acquisition expands Rheinmetall's industrial footprint in Romania, complementing the operations of its existing subsidiary, Rheinmetall Automecanica.
