Rheinmetall announces new investment in Hungary

Rheinmetall announced a significant new investment at a ceremony in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary, to bolster its local expertise in military vehicle development. The expansion aims to establish additional engineering and development capacities, strengthening the company's long-term presence in advanced defense technology.

The project receives support from the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA), which is providing €1.4 million in funding. This investment is expected to create approximately 80 new jobs for highly qualified engineers at the Zalaegerszeg site.

A key focus of the expansion will be the further development of Rheinmetall's state-of-the-art vehicle systems, specifically the Lynx KF41 armored fighting vehicle and the Panther KF51 main battle tank. By enhancing its development and testing infrastructure, Zalaegerszeg is set to play an increased role within the global Rheinmetall network.

"In collaboration with our partners from the global Rheinmetall Group and with the support of HIPA, we will significantly increase our capacities and capabilities," stated Paul Walf, CEO of Rheinmetall Hungary Zrt. "This will enable us to increase Hungary’s contribution to some of the latest developments in defence technology, particularly in the field of military vehicles."

The announcement was attended by Hungary's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szíjjártó. He highlighted the investment as a milestone for the modernization of Hungary's defense industry, emphasizing the importance of international partnerships. Szíjjártó noted that the investment aligns with the "Zrínyi 2026" program's goal of equipping the armed forces with modern, domestically manufactured equipment where possible.
