Rheinmetall awarded maintenance contract for customs vessels
Rheinmetall's Naval Systems division has secured a multi-year framework agreement with the German General Directorate of Customs (Generalzolldirektion) for the maintenance and repair of four new LNG-powered customs vessels.
German technology group Rheinmetall has been contracted by the General Directorate of Customs (Generalzolldirektion) to perform maintenance and repair work on four new LNG-powered customs vessels. The multi-year framework agreement covers servicing, repairs, and emergency response for the fleet.
The contract includes services for one 67-meter customs vessel and three 55-meter vessels. The latter were built at Rheinmetall's Peene-Werft and delivered to the customer on schedule last year. Constructed from aluminum, these vessels are designed to monitor and control cross-border cargo traffic within German territorial waters and the exclusive economic zone.
"Our aim is to support our customers as a reliable partner throughout the entire lifecycle of their ships, not just during the construction phase," stated Tim Wagner, CEO of the Naval Systems division. He added that the new agreement validates the company's strategy of closely integrating shipbuilding expertise with service offerings.
Rheinmetall expects the contract to strengthen its maritime service business and further develop its long-term relationship with the client. The customs vessels are utilized for border control of goods traffic.
