Rheinmetall has received a €100 million order for additional hardware and support services for the German Army's (Bundeswehr) Digitisation of Land-Based Operations (D-LBO) project. The order will facilitate the continued integration of digital command and communication systems into military vehicles.

Rheinmetall receives €100 million order for Bundeswehr digitization project

Defense contractor Rheinmetall has secured a call-off order valued at approximately €100 million from the German Federal Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) as part of the Digitisation of Land-Based Operations (D-LBO) initiative. This latest order focuses on delivering further hardware components and essential support services to advance the digitalization of the Bundeswehr's vehicle fleet.

The order falls under an existing framework agreement for the D-LBO project, with the consortium ARGE IT-Systemintegration, comprising Rheinmetall Electronics GmbH and blackned GmbH, acting as the contractor. Rheinmetall's contribution includes the supply of 5,000 adapter plate sets for integrating IT and radio equipment into various vehicle platforms, alongside 11,000 rugged pin pad devices for controlling cryptographic functions and digital command systems.

To bolster series integration capacity, ten additional integration teams will be deployed from the fourth quarter of 2027 through the fourth quarter of 2028. The scope also encompasses technical support services during the ongoing integration process. This includes software component integration, optimization of technical interfaces, and measures to ensure stable system operations.

The D-LBO project is a cornerstone of the modernization efforts for the German Army, representing one of the Bundeswehr's most significant investment programs. With a potential total budget in the billions, the project aims to provide land forces with a continuous, secure, and interoperable digital command and information infrastructure, enhancing command and control capabilities and NATO interoperability.
