Rheinmetall to supply 1,500 laser modules to Portuguese Army
Rheinmetall has received an order for 1,500 LM-LowProfile laser modules from the Portuguese Army. Deliveries are scheduled to be completed by the third quarter of 2021.

German technology group Rheinmetall is set to supply 1,500 LM-LowProfile laser modules to the Portuguese Army. The contract, booked in October 2020, stipulates delivery in three batches, with completion expected by the third quarter of 2021. The order is valued in the low single-digit millions of euros.
The compact LM-LowProfile laser module, developed by Rheinmetall Soldier Electronics in Stockach, Germany, weighs approximately 160 grams and measures 85 mm in length. It is designed for assault rifles and other small arms, attaching to standard weapon rails via a MIL-STD 1913/NATO STANAG 4694 interface. Its low profile of 25 mm allows for use with daylight optics without obstructing the line of sight.
The module features both visible and infrared aiming lasers, as well as an adjustable infrared illuminator. All integrated lasers can be adjusted simultaneously and controlled remotely via a cable or a push button directly on the device. The LM-LowProfile is waterproof to depths of 30 metres for up to two hours. Rheinmetall previously supplied the Portuguese Army with weapon lights.
In comparative trials conducted by the Portuguese military, the module outperformed its competitors in both ergonomics and performance. Furthermore, the LM-LowProfile is not subject to the strict US ITAR export regulations. This marks the third order from Portugal within three years, highlighting the Portuguese military's confidence in Rheinmetall's soldier systems expertise.
