Rheinmetall to Supply Skyranger 30 for Denmark's Mobile Air Defence

German defence contractor Rheinmetall has secured a significant order from Denmark for its Skyranger 30 air defence system. The contract includes the supply of sixteen Skyranger 30 turrets, along with associated ammunition, to be integrated onto tactical 8x8 wheeled platforms for the Danish armed forces. The deal is valued in the low three-digit million euro range, with deliveries scheduled between 2027 and 2028, and a prototype expected by late 2026.

The order reinforces Rheinmetall's position in the ground-based, cannon-based air defence sector. Lieutenant General Per Pugholm Olsen, head of the Danish procurement agency FMI, highlighted the contract's importance for establishing the brigade's air defence capabilities. Oliver Duerr, CEO of Rheinmetall Electronic Solutions, expressed gratitude for Denmark's trust and noted the system's adaptability.

The Skyranger 30 system is designed to offer mobility, protection, flexibility, and precision for countering threats at close and very close ranges. It integrates a 30mm cannon, guided missiles, and sensors onto a single platform. Its airburst ammunition, programmable for detonation in proximity to targets, is particularly effective against drones.

This is the latest in a series of significant orders for the Skyranger 30. Austria previously ordered 36 systems, and several other NATO and EU nations are either planning or have initiated procurement. Germany has also ordered the system as part of a broader air defence initiative.
