Rheinmetall to supply Skyranger 35 air defence systems to Ukraine
Rheinmetall will supply Ukraine with Skyranger 35 air defence systems based on the Leopard 1 chassis. The order value is in the three-digit million euro range.
German defence contractor Rheinmetall announced it will supply Ukraine with further Skyranger 35 air defence systems mounted on Leopard 1 tank chassis. The order value is stated to be in the three-digit million euro range. Funding for the systems will be provided by an EU country using proceeds from frozen Russian assets.
Rheinmetall Italia SpA will be responsible for the production and integration of the Skyranger 35 systems at its facility in Rome. Specific quantities and delivery timelines were not disclosed.
The Skyranger 35 system combines the mobility and protection of the Leopard 1 tracked vehicle with the capabilities of a rapid-fire cannon air defence system. It is equipped with a 35 mm KDG 35/1000 revolver cannon capable of firing 1,000 rounds per minute. The system has an effective range of up to 4,000 meters and features AHEAD airburst technology.
Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall AG, expressed gratitude for Ukraine's trust and the EU country's support, highlighting Rheinmetall's ongoing commitment to assisting Ukraine.
