Rheinmetall to supply Ukraine with more Gepard anti-aircraft ammunition
Rheinmetall has received an order from the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense for 180,000 rounds of 35mm ammunition for Gepard anti-aircraft guns. Deliveries are set to begin in 2026.
German defense contractor Rheinmetall will supply Ukraine with an additional 180,000 rounds of 35mm ammunition for Gepard anti-aircraft systems. The order, booked in December 2024, is valued in the high double-digit million euro range and is funded by Germany. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in 2026.
The ammunition, specifically HEI-T (High Explosive Incendiary with Tracer) rounds, is designed for effectively engaging aerial targets, including drones. Production will take place at Rheinmetall's facility in Unterlüß, Germany. The company had previously rebuilt its 35mm ammunition production line rapidly in the spring of 2023 due to increased demand.
Germany has previously provided Ukraine with 55 Gepard anti-aircraft tanks, previously decommissioned from the German armed forces. These systems have been operational in Ukraine's air defense for over two years. Rheinmetall has also supplied other advanced air defense systems like Skynex to the country.
