Rheinmetall unveils containerized missile launcher for loitering munition

German defense contractor Rheinmetall has unveiled its Containerized Missile Launcher (CML) for its FV-014 loitering munition system at the Eurosatory 2026 defense exhibition. The company aims to combine reconnaissance and strike capabilities on a single platform, enhancing firepower on future battlefields.

The CML is integrated into Rheinmetall's reconnaissance and strike network, designed to reduce reaction times and improve protection for friendly forces. The system's digital foundation is the Rheinmetall Battlesuite, which enables the digitalization of platforms, sensors, and weapons, and facilitates seamless networking of existing and future systems through standardized interfaces.

According to the manufacturer, the CML is a fully autonomous, modular, and networked weapon system built for flexible deployment. It utilizes a logistically adaptable 20-foot container capable of holding up to 18 FV-014 unmanned aerial vehicles. Integrated power and communication modules allow for unattended operation. The loitering munitions, with a range of up to 100 kilometers and an endurance of up to 70 minutes, can be launched in salvos and controlled simultaneously by a single operator.

The launcher's open architecture also supports the quick integration of other munitions and can be adapted to various vehicles and national command systems. Rheinmetall emphasizes that the CML and Battlesuite combination represents an open digital combat network integrating reconnaissance, command, and firepower into a unified architecture.
