Rheinmetall's Share History Dates Back to 1889

Düsseldorf – German technology firm Rheinmetall AG has published a comprehensive account of its long share history, which commenced in 1889 under the name Rheinische Metallwaaren- und Maschinenfabrik Actiengesellschaft. The company's shares were first listed on German stock exchanges in 1894, positioning them as the oldest among current DAX members.

Since its inception, Rheinmetall's ownership structure has seen significant shifts. Initially, founding banks in Berlin and Frankfurt held controlling stakes. In the early 20th century, Fried. Krupp AG became a major shareholder, followed by the German Reich's acquisition of a majority holding in 1925. Post-World War II, ownership passed through various entities before the Röchling family emerged as a key stakeholder in the 1950s.

The company has held its general meetings regularly since 1890, with interruptions during World War II. The first post-war general meeting took place in 1951. Rheinmetall's corporate name has also evolved over time, including notable periods as Rheinmetall-Borsig AG and Rheinmetall Berlin AG, before adopting the current Rheinmetall AG name in 1996.

Share valuations have fluctuated throughout its history. For instance, in 1960, the Rheinmetall share reached an all-time high, trading at 510 percent of its nominal value. The company's stock was also a consistent component of the MDAX index from its introduction in 1996 until March 2023, being the sole share to remain listed without interruption during that entire span.
