Rhode Island Energy Customers Gain Real-Time Energy Monitoring

Rhode Island Energy (RIE) has introduced a new service that allows its customers to monitor their electricity consumption in real time. The program utilizes the Sense application, which provides users with insights into their energy usage and helps them identify ways to reduce consumption.

This technology, uncommon for U.S. consumers until now, enables customers to view their real-time energy use via mobile devices. The app breaks down energy consumption by appliance, offering data to help consumers make more informed decisions about their energy habits.

RIE states the goal of the service is to enhance customer awareness of energy usage patterns and to promote more sustainable energy choices. The application also offers guidance and tools for energy conservation, potentially leading to lower utility bills for customers.

The rollout makes Rhode Island Energy customers some of the first in the United States to have access to such a detailed, real-time monitoring tool. The service is now available to all RIE customers who download and activate the Sense app.
