Ricursive Intelligence Uses AI for Chip Design to Address Compute Demand

Ricursive Intelligence founders Anna Goldie and Azalia Mirhoseini believe that more efficient AI-designed chips can help solve the compute crisis. The startup is developing artificial intelligence capable of designing chips, learning from each iteration, and improving subsequent designs.

"In the next five years, the demand for compute power is expected to increase at least 10,000-fold, which might even be a conservative estimate," Goldie stated at TechCrunch Disrupt. "We don't want to build 10,000 times more data centers. We need to help by creating more efficient chips that utilize the bandwidth in these data centers and fabs more effectively."

While the idea of AI designing its own chips may raise concerns for some, Goldie suggests that by having AI handle chip design, humans can focus on developing applications and exploring new possibilities within computing.

The company's goal is to automate and accelerate the chip design process. This approach allows humans to concentrate on their best ideas and creativity, while AI manages the execution in chip design and software development.
