Rittal, ABB, and HPE Launch Secure Edge Data Center

Rittal, ABB, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) have partnered to introduce the Secure Edge Data Center (SEDC), intended for industrial and telecommunication sectors. This new edge data center enables enterprise-grade IT operations to be situated near production machinery, thereby minimizing latency and improving the security and reliability of real-time data processing.

Industry research indicates a significant increase in data generated and processed outside traditional data centers, projected to rise from 10% to 50% by 2022. This growth is attributed to advancements like 5G and the convergence of operational technology (OT) with IT. The SEDC addresses this trend by offering a pre-integrated, resilient, and protected solution suitable for harsh environments.

The SEDC unit is delivered as a factory-integrated and tested turnkey solution, incorporating HPE's software-defined infrastructure. It is designed for deployment within 12 weeks. The enclosure features an IP55 rating for protection against dust and humidity, complemented by Rittal's cooling and fire suppression systems and ABB’s redundant power supply with backup.

This solution is scalable in increments of 5, 10, and 20 kW and can be remotely monitored and managed across customer sites. When equipped with platforms like HPE ProLiant, the SEDC facilitates the deployment of Azure-consistent applications, whether on-premises or in the cloud, offering flexibility for performance, security, and collaboration needs.
