Rittal introduces Hygienic Design enclosures for food industry

February 03, 2026 – Rittal, a provider of enclosure solutions, has launched its Hygienic Design product series to address the high hygiene standards mandated by the food industry.

The series is specifically designed for hygiene-critical production environments where cleanliness, safety, and ease of cleaning are paramount. The enclosures are constructed from high-grade stainless steel (AISI 304) with a surface roughness of no more than 0.8 µm. Rounded edges, sloped surfaces, and seamless joints are incorporated to prevent the accumulation of dirt and liquids.

The Hygienic Design enclosures comply with standards such as DIN EN 1672-2 and guidelines from the European Hygienic Engineering and Design Group (EHEDG). They offer IP66 and IP69 protection ratings, ensuring resistance to high-pressure and hot-water cleaning. The cabinets feature FDA-compliant seals that withstand cleaning and disinfection agents, alongside concealed hinges and screws for a smooth exterior surface.

These features distinguish the Hygienic Design enclosures from conventional stainless steel cabinets. Traditional designs may include external screws, openly attached hinges, and flat surfaces prone to dirt accumulation. Rittal's solution aims to minimize contamination risks and streamline cleaning processes, which is crucial for ensuring food safety.

Rittal's Hygienic Design solutions assist food manufacturers in adhering to industry regulations and maintaining elevated hygiene standards within their production facilities.
