Rittal Enhances Food Industry Hygiene with New Hygienic Design Enclosures
Friedrichsdorf, Germany – Rittal, a supplier of enclosure solutions, has introduced its new Hygienic Design (HD) product range. This line is engineered to meet the exceptionally high demands for cleanliness, safety, and cleanability in the food and beverage sector, as well as other hygiene-critical areas.
The Hygienic Design enclosures are constructed from high-grade stainless steel (AISI 304) and feature a surface roughness of ≤ 0.8 µm. Rounded edges, sloping surfaces, and seamless transitions are incorporated to prevent the accumulation of dirt and liquids, facilitating easier cleaning and reducing the risk of cross-contamination. The enclosures feature roof pitches greater than 30° and FDA-compliant seals resistant to detergents and disinfectants.
Not all stainless steel enclosures meet hygienic design criteria. Rittal's HD enclosures are specifically designed to comply with industry standards such as DIN EN 1672-2 and EHEDG guidelines. These standards address material selection, surface finish, design features, and cleanability to ensure food safety and minimize health risks.
The enclosures achieve IP 66 and IP 69 protection ratings, allowing for high-pressure and hot-water cleaning. Hinges and screws are located on the inside of the enclosure, ensuring a smooth, easily cleanable external surface. Rittal states these products are developed to meet the highest industry demands in challenging production environments.
