Rittal introduces megawatt-scale cooling solution for AI infrastructure
Rittal has launched a modular liquid cooling platform designed to manage thermal loads exceeding one megawatt, addressing the high-density cooling requirements of AI-driven data centers.
The proliferation of artificial intelligence workloads is driving an unprecedented increase in power density within data centers, pushing traditional air-cooling methods to their limits. Rittal's latest cooling solution addresses this by providing direct-to-chip liquid cooling capable of supporting over 1 MW of capacity, developed in collaboration with major hyperscalers.
The system employs a modular architecture based on Open Rack V3 standards. This design allows for high availability through N+1 redundancy and simplifies maintenance, as critical components can be serviced or replaced via hot-swapping. The platform offers two primary modes: a liquid-to-liquid variant for high-performance clusters—which supports heat recovery for secondary use—and a liquid-to-air option for facilities without direct water cooling infrastructure.
By integrating cooling, power distribution, and monitoring directly into standardized cabinets, Rittal aims to streamline data center scaling. The technology is set to be compatible with both 21-inch Open Rack V3 systems and the company’s 19-inch VX IT cabinet line, providing flexibility for diverse infrastructure deployments.
