Rittal is addressing new European Union regulations concerning fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases) with updated cooling solutions for enclosures. The EU F-gas regulation (EU 2024/573) aims to progressively reduce and eventually eliminate emissions from these gases, which have a significant global warming potential.
The regulation mandates a phase-down of F-gases, with stricter rules impacting the market for certain refrigerants becoming effective as early as January 2027. This impacts the construction of control cabinets, switchgear, and machinery where effective thermal management is critical. Previously, many of these applications relied on refrigerants with high GWP values.
Manufacturers and users in the sector must now adapt to these changes by selecting equipment that utilizes lower-GWP refrigerants or alternative technologies. The regulation not only affects the introduction of new equipment but also includes provisions for leak checks and documentation.
Rittal emphasizes the need for industry stakeholders to understand the regulatory landscape and invest in compliant technologies. The company offers resources and cooling units designed to meet the evolving environmental standards, ensuring operational continuity and compliance for its customers.
