Rivian R2 Receives Software Update With Pet Camera and Tailgate Height Adjustment
Rivian has released a software update for its R2 electric vehicle, adding features such as "Pet Cam" and adjustable tailgate opening height. The update aims to enhance user convenience and vehicle functionality.
Electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian has issued a software update for its R2 model, introducing notable features including a "Pet Cam" and an adjustable opening height for the powered tailgate. The update is expected to improve the vehicle's usability and cater to specific owner needs.
The "Pet Cam" functionality is integrated into the vehicle's "Pet Comfort Mode." This feature allows drivers, after activating the mode and leaving the vehicle, to monitor their pets inside via the Rivian mobile app or their phone's lock screen. This provides owners with real-time assurance of their pet's well-being.
The "Pet Comfort Mode" maintains a set interior temperature for the vehicle and displays relevant information on the center screen, allowing external individuals to confirm the pet's safety. This feature is comparable to similar pet monitoring functions offered by other automakers, such as Tesla.
The adjustable tailgate height is designed to prevent collisions in environments with limited overhead clearance, such as low-ceiling parking garages. Drivers can set a maximum opening height to avoid contact with garage structures.
Rivian also announced plans to introduce "Teen Mode" and "Valet Mode" in early 2027. These future updates will enable owners to set usage restrictions for other drivers, enhancing safety and privacy.
