Rivian Sets New Sales Record Driven by R2 SUV Deliveries
Rivian delivered 19,248 electric vehicles in the third quarter, marking a new company record. The launch of its more affordable R2 SUV significantly contributed to the delivery surge.

Rivian announced a new quarterly sales record, delivering 19,248 electric vehicles in the third quarter of 2026. This figure represents a substantial increase of approximately 45% compared to the same period last year. While the company did not provide a specific breakdown for the R2 model, this quarter marked its first full sales period following its June launch.
The R2 SUV, positioned as a more accessible option with a starting price just under $60,000, is central to Rivian's strategy for broader market penetration. The automaker anticipates delivering between 20,000 and 25,000 R2 vehicles by the end of 2026, potentially making it one of the fastest-selling EVs in U.S. history.
Further enhancing its market appeal, Rivian plans to introduce lower-priced R2 variants, potentially starting around $45,000. These sales targets, combined with deliveries from its R1 line and commercial vans, could lead Rivian to achieve its best-ever annual sales year, with projections of 65,000 to 70,000 total vehicles delivered, surpassing previous years where sales hovered around 50,000 units.
Rivian is scheduled to release its comprehensive third-quarter financial results on October 29th. The successful scaling of R2 production and delivery is considered crucial for the company's sustained growth in the competitive electric vehicle market.
