Rivian's 2027 R1 Models Add Customer-Requested Seating Option

Rivian is updating its 2027 R1 electric vehicle lineup, with the most notable addition being the introduction of a six-seat interior option for the R1S SUV and R1T pickup. This configuration, featuring captain's chairs in the second row, is the company's most requested feature for the R1S, according to Rivian.

The new captain's chairs are designed to offer a more premium feel and practical use, including a hidden cupholder. The spacing between the chairs is intended to facilitate easier access to the third row and provide a versatile space for carrying items like skis or surfboards.

In addition to the seating update, Rivian is also aligning the trim structure of the R1 models with its R2 vehicle. The previous Dual, Tri, and Quad options are being replaced by Premium and Performance tiers, while the Quad powertrain remains available. Base pricing for the R1T starts at $79,990 and for the R1S at $83,990, with no change from the previous model year.
