RIX Industries Partners with Build Health International for Medical Oxygen Compressor Training in Africa

RIX Industries, a provider of gas compression technologies, has partnered with Build Health International (BHI), a non-profit focused on healthcare infrastructure in low- and middle-income countries, to deliver training on medical oxygen compressors. The program will be hosted at BHI's training center at Kigali College of Rwanda Polytechnic, providing essential skills to biomedical technicians across sub-Saharan Africa.

The training facility is equipped with RIX 2PS and RIX 2V3 compressors, along with an oxygen plant and distribution system. Sessions will cover booster compressor safety, routine maintenance, component identification, and troubleshooting, aiming to ensure the consistent operation of critical medical equipment.

"Access to medical oxygen is one of the most fundamental gaps in healthcare across sub-Saharan Africa, and a well-maintained compressor is the difference between a hospital that can provide care and one that cannot," stated Andrew L. Johnston, Director of Medical Oxygen and Training at Build Health International. He added that a lack of necessary knowledge and skills is a primary barrier, which this partnership addresses by providing factory-level instruction.

RIX and BHI have collaborated informally for years, with RIX compressors widely used in African hospitals. BHI's teams have developed widely utilized repair guides and video resources for this equipment. To formalize the training, RIX engineers initially trained the BHI Rwanda team, who then demonstrated their proficiency by training biomedical engineers from Ethiopia under RIX's observation.
