Robot Startup LumiBot Showcases New Sensor Tech at IROS 2026

Pittsburgh, Sept. 29, 2026 – LumiBot, a startup founded just over a year ago, is presenting its new finger-shaped visuo-tactile sensors and robotic hands at the IROS 2026 conference. The company has also been selected to showcase its solutions at the event's startup session.

LumiBot's core thesis is that the upper limit of data quality is determined by hardware reliability. In embodied AI, high-quality data from real-world manipulation remains scarce. LumiBot aims to address this bottleneck by developing highly reliable and precise robotic hands and visuo-tactile sensors that produce standardized, clean data for model training.

The company is showcasing its Lumi-Dex series of robotic hands, designed for integration with mainstream robotic platforms and simulation environments. Notably, the Lumi-Dex-21 hand combines linkage and direct-drive mechanisms. LumiBot states its upcoming flagship model will improve durability and thermal management, allowing for up to 5,000 hours of continuous no-load operation, supporting uninterrupted data collection.

The Lumi-Tac V2 sensor offers enhanced durability and coverage on fingertips and sides, featuring 10-micron spatial resolution, 0.02 N force detection accuracy, and a 120 fps frame rate. Paired with proprietary algorithms, the sensor produces dense and reliable multi-sensory data for training AI models.

LumiBot aims to scale robotic hands for real-world industrial environments. Founded in 2025, the company has developed its entire product portfolio in-house, ensuring data is aligned with model training needs. The company seeks to transition standardized data collection from research labs to industrial applications.
