RoboTechnik Targets Silicon Photonics Mass Production With Hong Kong Listing
RoboTechnik Intelligent Technology, formerly focused on solar cell factory automation, is preparing to list in Hong Kong. The company has expanded into silicon photonics manufacturing equipment through its acquisition of Germany's ficonTEC.

Chinese automation specialist RoboTechnik Intelligent Technology is set to list on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on September 29 under stock code 3757. The company, previously known for its equipment serving the solar photovoltaic industry, is now pivoting to capitalize on the growing demand for silicon photonics, a key technology for high-speed data transfer in artificial intelligence applications.
RoboTechnik's business has undergone a significant transformation following its acquisition of ficonTEC, a German company specializing in automated assembly and testing systems for photonic devices. This strategic move means the majority of RoboTechnik's revenue now derives from machines used in the production of silicon photonics components, which enable data transfer using light instead of electricity, offering advantages in speed and power efficiency over longer distances.
The mass production of silicon photonics devices requires extreme precision in component alignment and assembly, a different challenge compared to its previous focus on solar cell factory automation. RoboTechnik aims to leverage its expertise in industrial automation and precision manufacturing to address this new sector. The Hong Kong listing marks a crucial step in its ambition to become a major supplier of equipment for silicon photonics mass production.
The company expects to raise approximately HK$4.96 billion from the listing, funds earmarked for strategic growth. Founded in 2011 in Suzhou, RoboTechnik is already traded on Shenzhen's ChiNext market. It is now expanding its global footprint to meet the increasing need for faster, more energy-efficient data communication solutions, essential for the advancement of AI and large-scale data centers.
