Robotics Firm 智元 (Intelligent Machines) Launches New Funding Round

Chinese robotics company 智元 (Intelligent Machines) has reportedly started a new funding round, aiming for a valuation of approximately 50 billion yuan. This new investment is expected to delay its IPO plans.

Chinese robotics startup 智元 (Intelligent Machines), focusing on "embodied AI" robots, has initiated a new financing round. Reports indicate the company is seeking to raise between 1 billion and 1.5 billion yuan, with a projected valuation of around 50 billion yuan (approximately $6.8 billion USD).

The new funding round is set to impact the company's initial public offering (IPO) timeline. Under Hong Kong Stock Exchange regulations, companies completing new financing after submitting a listing application must typically wait 120 days post-financing before they can trade, unless specific exemptions are granted. This requirement suggests that 智元 is unlikely to complete its IPO this year.

Founded in 2023, 智元 is developing general-purpose AI robots with a focus on "embodied intelligence." The company recently announced that its 20,000th embodied AI robot rolled off the production line, setting a new global record for mass production in this sector and highlighting its rapid scaling capabilities.

The market for humanoid robots is experiencing significant growth. Industry research indicates a strong upward trend in shipments. 智元 has emerged as a leading supplier, reportedly holding over 43% market share with 9,700 units shipped, positioning it as the top global provider in this category. The company's rapid production and market penetration underscore its significant presence in the burgeoning robotics industry.
