Rockstar Games Aims to Shorten Grand Theft Auto Development Cycles
Rockstar Games suggests future Grand Theft Auto titles may have shorter development periods. Established engine, tools, and team are expected to accelerate the process.

Rockstar Games may reduce the waiting time between future installments of its popular Grand Theft Auto series. Phil Hooker, a technical lead at Rockstar, told Bloomberg that "the engine, the tools and the team we've built during this project will allow us to do things more quickly."
The development of the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI has been notably lengthy, spanning eight years. This results in a 13-year gap between GTA V and the forthcoming title.
The report highlights past efficiency, citing the one-year gap between Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. This was achievable because Rockstar already possessed a foundational engine and development framework.
Rockstar Games intends to leverage the resources and infrastructure developed for GTA VI to streamline the production of subsequent games, aiming to shorten release cycles for fans of the franchise.
