Rohde & Schwarz adds three-phase power analysis to MXO oscilloscopes
Rohde & Schwarz has introduced the new R&S MXO-K333 software option for its MXO series oscilloscopes. The addition enables in-depth measurement and analysis of three-phase AC systems.

Munich – Rohde & Schwarz has launched the new R&S MXO-K333 software option, bringing three-phase power analysis functionalities to the company's MXO series oscilloscopes. The new option is designed for engineers developing and debugging three-phase AC systems, drives, and inverters.
The software provides in-depth measurement and analysis functions available on all four and eight-channel models of the R&S MXO 3, R&S MXO 4, R&S MXO 5, and R&S MXO 5C oscilloscopes. The R&S MXO-K333 keeps the captured waveform visible during measurement, allowing users to review power values and check transient behavior within the same instrument. This integration correlates power analysis directly with real waveform and signal events.
A guided setup wizard assists in assigning channels for voltage and current probes. It supports common two- and four-wire configurations and verifies wiring. The software performs cycle-by-cycle calculations for RMS values, power factor, active power, reactive power, and total power. System efficiency can also be calculated by defining input and output configurations. Additional analysis views include phasor display, harmonic analysis, and THD measurements according to IEC 61000-3-2 and MIL-STD-1399 standards.
As an oscilloscope-based solution, the R&S MXO-K333 allows engineers to correlate three-phase power analysis results directly with the underlying voltage and current waveforms in real time. This is particularly valuable during R&D and debugging, where power behavior often needs analysis alongside switching events, transients, control signals, and communication activity.
