Rohde & Schwarz and China Mobile demonstrate generative AI performance testing

Rohde & Schwarz and the China Mobile Research Institute have partnered to develop a framework for testing generative AI user experience under diverse wireless conditions. The demonstration, showcased at MWC Shanghai 2026, uses the CMX500 radio communication tester to simulate varying network environments, including different latency, jitter, and signal strength levels, while running generative AI applications on a connected terminal.

The system enables the quantitative measurement of key performance indicators, such as time to first token and tokens per second. By simulating realistic wireless scenarios, the testbed helps developers identify how specific network impairments impact the performance of large language models running on mobile and IoT devices.

This initiative comes as organizations like 3GPP and GTI work to define standard test frameworks for the integration of AI within mobile networks. According to both companies, the project is intended to support the evolution toward 6G by establishing standardized metrics that ensure the reliability of intelligent, low-latency services.
