Test and measurement equipment manufacturer Rohde & Schwarz and China Mobile Research Institute have partnered to research and validate Joint Communication and Sensing (JCAS) technology for future 6G networks.
German technology firm Rohde & Schwarz and China Mobile Research Institute have announced a collaboration focused on the research and validation of Joint Communication and Sensing (JCAS) technology for 6G networks.
The partnership will utilize Rohde & Schwarz's R&S AREG800A automotive radar echo generator as an object simulator within a JCAS testing solution. This setup aims to enable reliable and repeatable laboratory testing of JCAS systems by simulating various object parameters, thereby accelerating the technology's development and industrialization.
JCAS is considered a key technology for 6G, integrating communication and sensing capabilities. It allows devices to exchange data while simultaneously perceiving their environment, detecting distance, direction, and velocity. This integration is expected to enhance overall system performance and enable advanced applications like digital twins.
China Mobile Research Institute has a stated commitment to advancing 6G technologies through research and prototyping. Rohde & Schwarz, a participant in various 6G research projects and standardization bodies, brings its expertise in test and measurement solutions. The collaboration seeks to establish consensus on JCAS scenarios, requirements, and technologies, laying groundwork for future standardization and deployment.
