Rohde & Schwarz and Viasat Collaborate on Satellite IoT Test Plan
Rohde & Schwarz and Viasat have joined forces to enhance testing for Narrowband Non-terrestrial Networks (NB-NTN) IoT devices connecting via satellite.

Munich โ February 27, 2026 โ Rohde & Schwarz and Viasat are collaborating to develop a test plan aimed at ensuring reliable satellite connectivity for NB-IoT devices.
The partnership seeks to improve the testing process for narrowband non-terrestrial network (NB-NTN) IoT devices and verify their interoperability with Viasat's satellite network. This initiative is expected to facilitate seamless IoT applications in areas lacking terrestrial network coverage.
The test plan utilizes Rohde & Schwarz's CMX500 testing solution, which supports 3GPP Release 17 standards and is specifically designed for testing NTN technologies, including NR-NTN and NB-NTN. The solution covers the entire lifecycle from R&D through certification and operator acceptance.
Rohde & Schwarz will present initial results from the test plan at MWC Barcelona 2026, taking place from March 2 to 5, 2026. Viasat will also showcase its solutions at the same event.
