Rohde & Schwarz enhances phase noise analysis and VCO measurement equipment
Rohde & Schwarz has updated its R&S FSWP and R&S FSPN phase noise analyzers with hardware and software improvements, aiming to reduce noise, shorten measurement times, and increase accuracy.

Munich – Rohde & Schwarz announced on January 18, 2023, significant performance enhancements for its R&S FSWP phase noise analyzer and VCO tester, and the R&S FSPN dedicated phase noise analyzer and VCO tester. These upgrades target reduced noise levels, shorter measurement times, and increased accuracy for critical measurements.
The company states that hardware updates include improved DC sources with lower noise levels, enhancing the already high sensitivity. The user interface has also been updated with a higher-color intensity, anti-glare capacitive screen supporting multi-touch features like zoom. For users working with very low-noise oscillators, the system now includes suppression capabilities to prevent cross-spectral collapse.
A key software addition is the SCPI recorder, a function unique to this class of instrument. This feature allows engineers to record sequences of manual settings, enabling easily repeatable test sequences. The company highlights that faster VCO measurement speeds, particularly beneficial for production environments, will help reduce testing costs.
Both the upgraded R&S FSPN and R&S FSWP analyzers are now available. This development aims to meet the industry's demand for precise and efficient tools in radio frequency test and measurement.
