Rohde & Schwarz offers testing solutions for RED 3.1(b) compliance
Rohde & Schwarz announced new testing solutions to meet the EU Radio Equipment Directive (RED) 3.1(b) electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements for wireless devices entering the European market.

Munich, Germany – Rohde & Schwarz has announced the availability of test solutions designed to meet the stringent electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements set forth by the European Union's Radio Equipment Directive (RED) 3.1(b). This directive is a crucial hurdle for wireless devices seeking market access within the EU.
The RED 3.1(b) requirements apply to a wide array of wireless devices, including smartphones, tablets, laptops, wearables, IoT-connected appliances, smart TVs, and wireless routers. Manufacturers must ensure their products undergo rigorous EMC testing to demonstrate compliance for both the core product functionality and its wireless capabilities.
Compliance involves ensuring devices adhere to electromagnetic emissions limits to prevent interference and successfully withstand external electromagnetic fields through immunity testing. The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) spearheads the development and updating of relevant standards, such as the ETSI EN 301 489 series, which outline specific technical requirements for various wireless technologies.
To facilitate this process, Rohde & Schwarz offers a suite of EMC testing solutions, including the R&S®TS9982 EMS test system. This modular system is equipped for both conducted and radiated EMS measurements, providing manufacturers with the tools necessary to validate their products against EU regulatory standards and ensure reliable operation.
