Rohde & Schwarz to upgrade air traffic control radios at UAE's Sheikh Zayed Centre

Rohde & Schwarz has been awarded a contract by the United Arab Emirates' General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) to modernize radio communications at the Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Centre in Abu Dhabi. The project involves replacing more than 200 air traffic control (ATC) radios.

The initiative aims to digitally transform the air navigation center's communication infrastructure by enhancing the existing voice communication system (VCS). Rohde & Schwarz was selected due to its established presence in the UAE and its comprehensive system capabilities.

The new R&S Series 5200 radios will be integrated into the current infrastructure, leveraging multiple network interfaces. The company has been active in the UAE for 30 years. The contract signing took place at the Dubai Airshow 2023.

Rohde & Schwarz will collaborate with the GCAA to ensure the project's successful implementation. The upgrade is expected to improve the efficiency and reliability of Abu Dhabi's air navigation system, contributing to air traffic safety.
