ROHM Develops Compact, High Anti-Surge Chip Resistors
ROHM Semiconductor has developed the new SDR01 series of high anti-surge chip resistors, achieving 0.33W rated power in the compact 0402 size. These components are designed for electronic equipment with increasing mounting densities.

Kyoto, Japan – ROHM Semiconductor has developed the "SDR01 Series," a new line of high anti-surge chip resistors. The series achieves a rated power of 0.33W in the compact 0402 size (1005 metric). This development addresses the continuous increase in component density within electronic equipment.
Traditionally, smaller component sizes have presented limitations in terms of power handling and voltage tolerance. ROHM's new resistors utilize the company's proprietary insulation technology, which enhances isolation properties, enabling higher voltage resistance relative to their size. This reduces the need for larger components or additional protection circuits in device designs.
The SDR01 series is specifically engineered for applications where space is limited and component density is high, such as in smartphones, laptops, and other consumer electronics. The improved anti-surge capability helps protect sensitive electronic components from voltage spikes that can occur during power supply switching operations or from external interference.
With the introduction of these new resistors, manufacturers can further reduce the physical size of their products or incorporate additional functionalities without increasing overall dimensions. ROHM anticipates that the SDR01 series will enhance device reliability and potentially lower production costs by minimizing the number of required components.
