Kyoto, Japan – ROHM Co., Ltd. announced the development of its second-generation terahertz (THz) wave oscillation device, employing resonant tunneling diode (RTD) technology. The company states the new device achieves an output power four times greater than previous models.

The device is available through the RTD-EVK-G2 Terahertz Wave Device Evaluation Kit, which includes a sample of the oscillator. This kit is intended for researchers and engineers working on applications within the terahertz frequency spectrum.

The terahertz range, situated between microwaves and infrared light, enables a variety of emerging applications. These include advanced medical imaging, security screening systems, high-speed telecommunications, and industrial material analysis. ROHM's new oscillator is expected to facilitate advancements in these fields.

This increase in output power is a critical factor for enhancing the performance of THz-based systems. Such improvements can lead to faster data transmission rates and more sensitive detection capabilities, vital for future communication networks and analytical tools.
