ROHM Develops Ultra-Compact Buck-Boost DC-DC Evaluation Board
ROHM has introduced a new, ultra-compact Buck-Boost DC-DC evaluation board designed for battery-powered devices. The board aims to accelerate design processes.

Kyoto, Japan – ROHM Co., Ltd. has unveiled the BD83070GWL-EVK-002, a new Buck-Boost DC-DC evaluation board. The board is intended to fully demonstrate the capabilities of the BD83070GWL DC-DC converter IC, which offers high efficiency and ultra-low current consumption.
The evaluation board was designed to achieve the smallest possible footprint for a Buck-Boost DC-DC converter. By integrating the BD83070GWL with a coil and capacitors, using only five components in total, it achieves an extremely compact mounting area of 12.87 mm² (3.3 x 3.9 mm). This offers a significant advantage for space-constrained, battery-powered devices.
The solution is particularly targeted towards wearables, mobile devices, and Internet of Things (IoT) gadgets where miniaturization and extended battery life are key requirements. The board is available for purchase online, with reference design resources including circuit layout data and a bill of materials (BOM) provided to facilitate the transition from evaluation to mass-production design.
The BD83070GWL IC aims to be a "definitive low-power eco-device" for electronics powered by small batteries or other limited power sources. It achieves up to 97% efficiency and an ultra-low quiescent current of 2.8 microamperes. The availability of this evaluation board and its design data supports the development of power management solutions for battery-operated devices in markets with a continuous demand for smaller and more energy-efficient components.
