Roku to discontinue Aquatic Life screensaver in December

Roku has notified its users that the Aquatic Life screensaver will be removed from its platform effective December 1. The animation, which has been a staple of the Roku operating system for the past ten years, will cease to function on devices as the current licensing term expires.

The removal follows a decision by artist Jim Sachs and publisher Prolific Publishing to end their partnership with Roku. Reports indicate the decision is linked to Fox’s acquisition of rights to the creative work, which effectively terminated existing distribution agreements.

Users who have relied on the Marine Aquarium animation will see the feature disappear from their devices next month. The company has not announced a replacement for the software, leaving long-term users without access to the digital aquarium content.
