Romanian Divers Destroy Russian Drones Near Offshore Gas Field

Romanian army divers detonated two Russian-made drones discovered floating in the Black Sea, close to the Neptun Deep offshore natural gas project. The discovery and subsequent destruction occurred on August 11.

Defense Minister Radu Miruță announced the incident, sharing a video of one drone being blown up. The drones were found by a ship operating near the Neptun Deep site, which is a significant development expected to make Romania the EU's largest gas producer. The Romanian Coast Guard, accompanied by army soldiers, recovered two drifting Gerbera-type drones of Russian design, along with other debris.

Romania has confirmed that the drones do not belong to Ukraine. Officials reached out to their Ukrainian counterparts, who verified that the systems were not theirs. This incident highlights ongoing security concerns in the Black Sea region, particularly in proximity to critical energy infrastructure.
